Mohamed Ado x Jonathan Micallef

Bet: Micallef’s win

Analysis: Ado is 5-0, but has a very suspect record… Australian Micallef has a record of 6-1 and was fighting more credible opponents. Both are grapplers, but Ado has only gone to decision once and lost (still in the amateur ranks). Micallef has two wins each way: knockout, finish and decision. Because of these factors, I trust the Australian more.

Leslie Hernandez x Julieta Martinez

Bet: Hernandez wins

Analysis: Leslie is a complete fighter, but she prefers to fight standing up. On the ground, if she is in danger, she has a good defense for submissions. Martinez is a 20-year-old Argentinian athlete! She already has a 7-0 record, but was fighting questionable opponents. Her last win was against someone 45 years old! Leslie’s record is 4-1 and she was in the LFA, where I saw her win and saw that she has talent. Hernandez will also have a height and wingspan advantage.

Yadier DelValle x Antônio Monteiro

Bet: DelValle wins

Analysis: The Cuban has a base in judo, jiu-jitsu and wrestling, which is a dangerous combination. The Brazilian also has a base in jiu-jitsu, but as the fight goes on he could present problems. DelValle has a record of 7-0 and the Brazilian is 17-4. Despite the greater experience, I believe DelValle has more weapons to win, either by submission or in the judges’ decision.

Nick Piccininni x Luis Gurule

Bet: Piccininni wins
Low confidence

Analysis: Classic clash between striker and wrestler. Piccininni has already fought and won in this edition of Contender, he just didn’t convince. There are even doubts as to whether he actually won the fight. Now he’ll face striker Gurule, who ended up changing opponents a month or so in advance. My guess is based mainly on the issue of takedowns: If Piccininni manages to get the takedown, that’s the best way for him, for sure. Now, if he stays on his feet… he could be in a lot of trouble.

Nick Klein x Heraldo Souza

Bet: Souza wins

Analysis: I’m going to trust the aggressiveness of the Brazilian, who is dangerous on the feet and on the ground. He doesn’t like to leave the result up to the judges. He also has more experience than Nick Klein, who is coming off two good wins. I think the way forward for the Brazilian is to fight on the feet and knock him out as soon as possible. If the fight goes to the ground, with him on the bottom, it could get considerably complicated.
