UFC 307 Predictions: Pereira vs. Rountree Jr.

Court McGee x Tim Means

Bet: McGee wins
Low confidence

Analysis: Chances of a double retirement! Two hard-hitters, who have been in countless battles inside the octagon. It’s very difficult to predict this fight, but Means’ biggest flaw is his ground game, which is McGee’s biggest point if he manages to take the fight to the ground. If McGee plays a game of control and takedowns, he can get the win.

Carla Esparza vs Tecia Pennington

Bet: Pennington wins

Analysis: Esparza had a baby, stopped for two years and will now make her last fight. Pennington fought in May this year, and lost in a rather questionable split decision against Tabatha Ricci. High chances of going to a judges’ decision, in a fight with a lot of grappling and takedowns. Mainly because of the pace, I trust Pennington to win.

Ryan Spann vs. Ovince St. Preux

Bet: Spann wins

Analysis: Fight rescheduled. In my last guess, I reluctantly went with St. Preux. Now I’m sticking with Spann. It may not seem like it, but he’s 33 years old, eight years younger than his opponent, and has an enviable wingspan and knockout power. In the fight against Anthony Smith, Spann had every chance to finish, but ended up leaving it to the judges to decide (and was robbed). As he’s coming off three defeats, I want to believe he’ll put in a bit more effort. St. Preux, on the other hand, is coming off a very good win, albeit in a split decision, against Nzechukwu, where he showed good gas at the age of 41. But in the end, Spann’s knockout power should make the difference.

César Almeida x Ihor Potieria

Bet: Almeida wins

Analysis: The Ukrainian is crazy inside the octagon. He has a very dangerous first round, but a questionable fight IQ. In his last four losses, he has been knocked out on three occasions. And now he faces a very tough kickboxer, the Brazilian Cesinha Almeida. In his last fight, Almeida was fighting well on the feet, but his opponent invested in takedowns and managed to nullify the Brazilian’s game. I’m confident that Potieria won’t have enough IQ to try to take the fight to the ground. And on the feet, Almeida has a lot more weapons to knock him out. I don’t think it will go the distance.

Austin Hubbard vs Alexander Hernandez

Bet: Hubbard wins

Analysis: In his last five fights, Hernandez has had one win, and his last two losses were to average fighters. Hubbard is not an ace in any area, but he has plenty of stamina and a blurred fighting game, involving wrestling and control. I’d say there’s a good chance we’ll see fifteen minutes of a lukewarm fight.

Marina Rodriguez x Iasmin Lucindo

Bet: Lucindo wins

Analysis: Rodriguez has a hard time defending takedowns, which, to her misfortune, is Lucindo’s specialty. I foresee Iasmin getting more control time and applying takedowns to Rodriguez in every round. The only problem that could happen for Lucindo is that Marina is having a VERY special night and manages to stop ALL the takedowns.

Stephen Thompson x Joaquin Buckley

Bet: Buckley wins

Analysis: Thompson is a beast in this style, but he’ll need space to apply his blows. And given Buckley’s aggressive style, I think it’s hard for him to stay loose, even more so at the age of 41. Buckley is also in a better moment, coming off the back of a four-fight winning streak. I’d even say he has a chance of a knockout…

Ketlen Vieira x Kayla Harrison

Bet: Harrison wins

Analysis: For more than a year without a fight, Vieira has good stamina and gas, but she’ll be facing a fighter who is very different. When it comes to power grappling and takedowns, I’m confident Harrison will have the edge. I don’t know if it will be a knockout or a finish, but it could be a complete domination by the American. Vieira was already knocked out in the first round by Irena Aldana in 2019…

Roman Dolidze vs Kevin Holland

Bet: Dolidze wins
Low confidence

Analysis: It could be the most boring fight of the night. Holland has excellent jiu-jitsu, but his takedowns aren’t the best. Dolidze prefers to fight standing, but doesn’t impose much volume. Perhaps one athlete will cancel out the other, and the one who makes fewer mistakes will win. And then I “trust” Dolidze more. Not to the point of putting my money on him…

José Aldo vs Mario Bautista

Bet: Aldo wins

Analysis: Despite being 38 years old, José Aldo’s last performance was impeccable, managing to completely annihilate the good athlete Jonathan Martínez. Now, against Mario Bautista, the fight should be more balanced, as the American has six wins in a row and has good boxing. I think a knockout is very unlikely here, it should be an even fight throughout the fifteen minutes.

Raquel Pennington vs Julianna Peña

Bet: Pennington wins

Analysis: Peña is a talker, but she’s been out of action for over two years. This belt fell into her lap, because by performance she didn’t deserve it. Pennington is not an exciting fighter, but she has a consistent game and the stamina of a tank. The longer the fight goes on, the more it will favor her. I don’t doubt that it will be a twenty-five minute monologue, with Pennington thrashing her opponent.

Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Roundtree Jr.

Bet: Pereira wins

Analysis: CHAMA! Roundtree Jr. is extremely dangerous, but he’s a little too busy, which is perfect for the Brazilian’s precise counterattacks. This fight won’t go the distance, and will most likely end in the first two rounds. Poatan’s form is incredible and he’ll keep his belt if he’s focused on the fight, which I think he will be.
