UFC 311 Predictions: Makhachev vs Tsarukyan 2

Tagir Ulanbekov vs Clayton Carpenter

Bet: Ulanbekov wins

Analysis: Carpenter is a good and complete fighter, but he’s already going to take a beating. The Russian is very tough, has a good wingspan and has never been finished or knocked out. And on the ground, the Russian is better. It could be an even fight, but I don’t see the American winning.

Ricky Turcios vs. Benardo Sopaj

Bet: Sopaj wins

Analysis: Turcios, from what we saw in his last fight, even at 31, doesn’t have much to show for it. On the other hand, what Sopaj did in his debut, even though he accepted the fight at short notice, was impressive. Even though he lost, he was winning the fight until he got tired. Turcios has poor takedown defense and Sopaj has good takedowns. I think it’s going to come down to that. And I wouldn’t doubt a finish for Benardo.

Rinya Nakamura vs Muin Gafurov

Bet: Gafurov wins
(Low confidence)

Analysis: I don’t know… the Japanese is an undefeated wrestler, but Gafurov has a lot more experience and knockout power… I think he has enough to trouble the Japanese and bring about his first defeat.

Karol Rosa x Ailin Perez

Bet: Perez wins

Analysis: The Brazilian has shown evolution in the octagon, but the Argentine’s game is very blurred. She’s strong, always looking for takedowns and has managed to do so most of the time. Unless Rosa comes up with an impeccable takedown defense, the Argentine will win.

Grant Dawson x Diego Ferreira

Bet: Ferreira wins

Analysis: The Brazilian, at the peak of his 39 years, seems to have found a new lease of life, coming off the back of two fine victories, the last one against a well above average fighter. Dawson is 9 years younger and is a good fighter, with good gas and a distinctive ground game. But in my head, I can’t forget that Grant has already been knocked out in 30 seconds by King Green… then it gets difficult.

Zachary Reese x Sedriques Dumas

Bet: Reese wins

Analysis: Reese is a very aggressive guy, always looking for a knockout or a finish. Dumas has a similar game, but everything he does, Reese does better, simple as that.

Jailton Almeida x Serghei Spivac

Bet: Almeida wins

Analysis: Malhadinho is MUCH faster and stronger than Serghei. All the Brazilian has to do is not mess around, and it should be an easy fight with a nice ground-and-pound or even a finish. But it’s worth remembering that Spivac has never been finished and has dangerous jiu-jitsu. The thing is, he always seems to be in low gear… and in this fight, that’s going to cause him to lose.

Payton Talbott x Raoni Barcellos

Bet: Talbott wins

Analysis: Payton is different. A guy who always moves forward, throwing a lot of punches. He has very effective boxing. Raoni, at 37, is a good fighter, I just think the American will throw more than he’ll be able to defend.

Johnny Walker vs Bogdan Guskov

Bet: Guskov wins

Analysis: At this point in the championship, all that remains to be seen is what meme will be generated by the knockout Johnny will suffer. He’s been sloppy and I don’t think he intends to change. Guskov, on the other hand, is flying and is a born knockout artist. This fight won’t go the distance.

Kevin Holland vs Reinier de Ridder

Bet: De Ridder wins

Analysis: Despite only being 32, Holland seems to be slowing down. He’s very fickle, we never know which version of him will enter the octagon. His performances against Dolidze and Venom Page make that clear. De Ridder, in his UFC debut, didn’t put in a stellar performance, but in the end he managed to get a finish. I think this fight will be almost in slow motion, but I trust that Reinier will be more eager to show something.

Jiri Prochazka vs Jamahal Hill

Bet: Prochazka wins

Analysis: Hill’s two defeats were by knockout. I think he’s been talking too much outside the octagon instead of focusing on training, while the Czech samurai, with all his eccentricities, seems much more focused and also has more weapons to win, whether on the feet or even if the fight goes to the ground.

Beneil Dariush vs Renato Moicano

Bet: Moicano wins

Analysis: Money Moicano knows what he needs to do. He’s in a great phase and now has the perfect opportunity to get a bonus. Dariush simply has no chin left. If a hand goes in, he goes to the ground, and then Renato is home. This fight won’t go the distance and I wouldn’t doubt it ending in the first round.

Merab Dvalishvili vs Umar Nurmagomedov

Bet: Dvalishvili wins

Analysis: The fear that Merab has shown in accepting this fight could be a bad outlook, but I still believe that, having just won the belt, he won’t want to lose so quickly. The two have a very similar fighting style. I think Merab has faced stiffer competition, not to mention endless gas. Being five rounds, I wouldn’t doubt a split decision and then, on the detail, victory for Dvalishvili.

Islam Makhachev vs Arman Tsarukyan

Bet: Makhachev wins

Analysis: It’s hard to take the belt off this Russian! The two have already fought six years ago, with Makhachev winning comfortably. Both athletes have improved over time, but Islam is still a step ahead. Arman took a beating from Charles and won in a split decision. Islam is in his prime and has an exceptional fight IQ. It could be a tough fight, but at the end of the day, Makhachev will be the champion.
