Nora Cornolle x Hailey Cowan
Bet: Cornolle wins
Analysis: Nora has more pace and is better on the feet than Cowan, who has been out of action for two years. Nora’s disadvantage is if the fight goes to the ground, but her takedown defense has been improving and Cowan is no star.
Tresean Gore x Marco Tulio
Bet: Tulio wins
Analysis: Marco has more experience, is very strong and aggressive. The Brazilian is good on the feet and guarantees himself in ground fighting. Gore is coming off two wins, but he was fighting two dead men. The American has already managed the feat of being knocked out by Cody Brundage… I see Tulio winning and with some ease, perhaps even a knockout.
Sumudaerji x Mitch Raposo
Bet: Raposo wins
Analysis: I’m going to trust Raposo to get the fight to the ground as soon as possible, which is the Chinese fighter’s weak point. Not that Sumudaerji is a monster on the feet, but he will have a good height and wingspan advantage in this fight. Raposo will have to control the distance well and throw the takedown at the right times. Now, once the fight goes to the ground, you just have to choose, because Sumudaerji has already been finished six times.
Sedriques Dumas x Michal Oleksiejchuk
Bet: Oleksiejchuk wins
Analysis: Dumas has a good grid game and jiu-jitsu, but his fight IQ is that of a potato. I think he’s going to want to fight Michal and he’s going to get in trouble. Oleksiejchuk’s ground game is non-existent, but on the feet his boxing is very good and he has knockout power.
Darren Elkins vs Julian Erosa
Bet: Elkins wins
Analysis: Elkins is already 40 years old and yet I think he’s tougher than Erosa, who is 35. One thing’s for sure: they’re both going to fight. The thing is, Erosa has been knocked out many times, precisely because of his fighting style. Elkins is taking the fight to deep waters. If he gets past the first round, Darren’s chances of victory will increase.
Jim Miller vs Chase Hooper
Bet: Hooper wins
Analysis: Chase already had a distinctive jiu-jitsu and now he’s still improving his standing fighting technique. In his last four fights, which he won, he always showed more tools. Jim Miller, a UFC legend, is already 41 and a tough guy, but I don’t see how he could survive Chase’s pressure. Of course, when the fight goes to the ground, if Hooper messes up, Jim will take it…
Yan Xiaonan x Virna Jandiroba
Bet: Jandiroba wins
Analysis: Xiaonan is a great athlete, very agile and with very good boxing, but her takedown defense is dubious. And to make matters worse, she’s up against a top grappler. Brazilian Virna is good with takedowns and on the ground, she can control and sometimes make progress. Unfortunately, it has a good chance of being a boring fight, but the Brazilian, if she uses her fight IQ, has enough weapons to win.
Dan Ige x Sean Woodson
Bet: Woodson wins
Analysis: Sean Woodson is a very long guy with thin legs. Although he has a strange shape, he knows how to use his wingspan very well. All he has is boxing, and somehow it’s been working for him. Ige also likes striking and doesn’t use wrestling much. If he keeps exchanging blows with Woodson for three rounds, he’s in for a tough time.
Nikita Krylov vs Dominick Reyes
Bet: Reyes wins
Analysis: Nikita has been out of action for two years and on his return, he takes on a guy who is flying. Reyes has put in two impressive performances and has everything it takes to bag a third win. Skill-wise, the two are similar, but I think the pace of the fight will make the difference.
Yair Rodriguez vs Patricio Pitbull
Bet: Rodriguez wins
Analysis: Yair is coming off the back of two defeats, if he loses now, he’ll have to go through HR. He should come in with greater motivation. The Mexican will have a great height and wingspan advantage, and has UFC experience on his side: he’s faced well-known names and tough athletes. Patricio Pitbull was a monster in Bellator, but from the names he’s beaten… I have to say I don’t know much. And he’s already 37… maybe it’s an even fight. Still, I think Rodriguez has a better chance of winning.
Bryce Mitchell x Jean Silva
Bet: Silva wins
Analysis: The moment all good people wanted has arrived: to see Bryce obliterated inside the octagon. And who better than a Fighting Nerds athlete to teach him a lesson? Jean has absurd knockout power and once he finds the distance, it’s all over for his opponent. But I have only one cause for concern: Mitchell is a pure wrestler and usually gets good takedowns. Whoever tried to take Jean down succeeded. Still, I think he has the jiu-jitsu to survive on the ground and on his feet, the Brazilian is infinitely better.
Michael Chandler x Paddy Pimblett
Bet: Pimblett wins
Analysis: I don’t intend to put a penny on this fight because I don’t think Pimblett is a great athlete. In fact, I see the UFC favoring him with hand-picked athletes. In this very fight, they gave him a 38-year-old Chandler, who lost two years of activity waiting for Connor McGregor. Chandler is explosive, but if Paddy survives the initial storm, he has a good chance of winning. Now, if Chandler wins, it would at least be funny…
Alexander Volkanovski x Diego Lopes
Bet: Lopes wins
Analysis: Diego has a great chance of winning, but he can’t play with Volkanovski. Five rounds are planned and we’ve already seen Lopes tiring in the final rounds. I think if the fight goes on too long, it could get complicated. The good news is that the Brazilian/Mexican has an absurd height advantage, has knockout power, is very agile and Alexander is coming off two losses where he was brutally knocked out, I don’t know how his chin is. In the end, I see Lopes with very good chances of taking the belt.
