MarQuel Mederos vs Mark Choinski
Bet: Mederos wins
Analysis: Mederos was due to fight last week, but had a slight health problem. In his case, the situation has become more favorable. He’ll be fighting an undefeated fighter, good in jiu-jitsu, but who was fighting in a small event and against very questionable fighters. Mederos is much more technical and has more weapons to win. But it would be good to avoid getting caught on the ground so as not to have any nasty surprises.
Quillan Salkilld x Yanal Ashmouz
Bet: Salkilld win
Analysis: Salkilld has a distinctive boxing style and a good fighting IQ. Ashmouz has plenty of strength but is less agile than Quillan. Salkill will have a good height and wingspan advantage. I see him being faster and imposing more volume on the Israeli athlete.
Joo Sang Yoo x Jeka Saragih
Bet: Yoo wins
Analysis: The undefeated Korean comes from the event sponsored by the Korean Zombie. He is a very strong and complete athlete. Jeka is a box of surprises. He goes for it without thinking about anything else. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. This time, I see him being knocked out or finished in either round 1 or 2.
Ariane da Silva x Cong Wang
Bet: Wang wins
Analysis: The Chinese Joker is a kickboxing beast. She’s very fast and her attacks hurt her opponents. Ariane prefers to fight standing up, but she doesn’t have the same power as her opponent. Her chance would be to take the fight to the ground, but taking Cong down is not such a simple mission. I think the Chinese woman will cruise and I don’t doubt a knockout.
Khaos Williams vs Andreas Gustafsson
Bet: Williams wins
Analysis: Gustafsson would also fight last week and I was confident of his victory. Now, a week later and with a new opponent, the situation has taken a turn for the worse. Khaos likes to bring chaos into the octagon and has a very heavy hand. Andreas is also a fighter and I don’t see him wanting to get away from Williams and invest only in grappling. I think the Swede will go for it. The problem is that that’s all Khaos wants is pure grappling.
Serghei Spivac x Waldo Cortes-Acosta
Bet: Cortes-Acosta wins
Analysis: Cortes-Acosta is in a great phase while Spivac is in that win-lose phase. If Waldo can keep the fight on the feet long enough and hurt Serghei, who has already been knocked out a few times, it’s the path to victory. For Spivac, the game is to get the fight to the ground as soon as possible. But I’m counting on the Cuban to have his takedown defense up to scratch.
Azamat Murzakanov vs Brendson Ribeiro
Bet: Murzakanov wins
Analysis: Ribeiro has shown progress in his last two fights. But now he faces an undefeated Russian knockout artist and I think he’s going to have a tough time. Brendson will have a big height and wingspan advantage, but I don’t trust his chin. I think Murzakanov will pass him. Even if the fight goes to the ground, the Russian, in principle, has enough skills to get through.
Bruno Silva vs Joshua Van
Bet: Van wins
Analysis: Bruno is extremely aggressive and has a lot of power in the first round.
However, if the fight goes longer, he starts to cool down. The young Joshua Van is a very good striker and although he doesn’t have such strong punches, he has plenty of stamina and a good gas in case the fight goes the distance. Van is 23, while the Brazilian is 35. I think youth will make the difference.
Vicente Luque vs Kevin Holland
Bet: Luque wins
Analysis: Two fighters who oscillate too much, it will depend on the version of each one who enters the octagon. Luque in his last performance knocked out Themba Gorimbo in less than a minute. Kevin has already had problems against opponents who used jiu-jitsu against him recently. Now, for Kevin to excel, he just needs to take advantage of his two-meter wingspan and have his boxing lined up. But I think that if the Brazilian comes in more switched on, he has a better chance of winning.
Mario Bautista x Patchy Mix
Bet: Mix wins
Analysis: Although it’s Patchy’s UFC debut, the guy was a king in Bellator and PFL. He’s quite strong, has a consistent standing game and is very good on the ground. Bautista is on a great run, with 7 wins in a row, but his performance against 38-year-old José Aldo, where he just locked the Brazilian in the clinch trying to get out of the fight as much as possible, was worrying. This time, even if he tries that same dirty strategy, I think it’s pretty unlikely that he’ll be able to lock Mix in the clinch for long.
Kelvin Gastellum vs Joe Pyfer
Bet: Pyfer wins
Analysis: This fight should have happened a while ago. I’m not changing my opinion at all. Gastellum is already slowing down, he has a sloppy physique to say the least and is quite slow. If Piffer comes in to show his stuff, which is what I expect, he has everything he needs to put on a show. I won’t say a knockout, because Gastellum is quite tough, but at least a clear victory in the judges’ decision.
Julianna Peña vs Kayla Harrison
Bet: Harrison wins
Analysis: Peña was just warming up the belt for Kayla. Harrison is a unique specimen, and her base in judo, with the precision of her takedowns, is a recipe for destroying her opponents. Julianna is used to five-round bouts, but she doesn’t specialize in any one area. And she only got the belt because Raquel Pennington simply didn’t start fighting until the last two rounds, and even then she shook Peña a few times. I see Harrison dominating from the first minutes of the fight and giving Julianna a nightmare.
Merab Dvalishvili vs Sean O’Malley
Bet: Dvalishvili wins
Analysis: While Merab defended his belt perfectly against Umar Nurmagomedov, Sean hasn’t fought since September, when he was completely annulled by Dvalishvili. How much has the American’s takedown defense improved in that time? I’d say not enough to stand up to the Georgian’s relentless takedown game. I think Merab wins easily again.
