UFC 318 predictions: Holloway vs. Poirier 3
em 15/07 - Atualizado há 1 mêsOn July 19, the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, LA, will host the highly anticipated UFC 318: Holloway vs. Poirier 3. Check out our complete analysis and detailed predictions for each fight on the card. After the fights, this article will be updated with the official results and verification of the predictions.

Carli Judice x Nicolle Caliari
Bet: Caliari wins
Analysis: Judice is a good athlete and has good gas and rounded boxing. The Brazilian, on the other hand, is more complete: she has a base in muay thai, but excels in jiu-jitsu, and even got her Contender Series contract with a finish. Here’s the thing: if the Brazilian has a good grappling IQ and takes the fight to the ground, it will make her life easier. If she sticks to grappling, she could be in trouble, even though she has more experience than Judice.
Brunno Ferreira vs Jackson McVey
Bet: Ferreira wins
Analysis: McVey was due to make his UFC debut last month, but his fight fell through because of his opponent. Now, things have become more complicated for him. Brunno Hulk has immense knockout power and strong jiu-jitsu. From what I understand of Jackson’s fighting style, he’s going to go all out to finish the fight as soon as possible. But against a guy of Ferreira’s style, that will be the cause of the American’s death. The only detail is that McVey will have an absurd height and wingspan advantage. All in all, I still think the Brazilian is superior.
Ryan Spann vs Lukasz Brzeski
Bet: Spann wins
Analysis: Spann is not one of the most reliable guys, but he has the power to finish the fight either by knockout or submission. Brzeski I don’t even know how he’s still in the UFC. He’s a weak fighter and I don’t think the Heavyweight category is right for him, with his physique. If Lukasz wins, it will be because of Ryan’s incompetence. But if the American goes in with about 75% focus, he’ll have the Polish guy beat.
Jimmy Crute x Marcin Prachnio
Bet: Crute wins
Analysis: A fight nobody wanted to see, but here we go. Crute complements his lack of technique with a lot of grit. The guy doesn’t give up the fight. He’s strong and has wrestling to his advantage if necessary. Prachnio prefers to fight standing up, but he doesn’t have extraordinary strength and is very technical. It’s probably going to be a boring fight, but I think Jimmy can win at least on points.
Adam Fugitt vs Islam Dulatov
Bet: Dulatov wins
Analysis: Islam is lethal and makes his height, wingspan and strength count. He’s good on his feet and on the ground. He was one of the highlights of last year’s Contender Series. Fugitt is a good fighter, but he fights little, has already been knocked out and is 36 years old. In his favour is the advantage of already knowing the UFC, after all, it’s Dulatov’s debut in the organization and in a packed arena. Will nerves not kick in? I’d like to believe not.
Ateba Gautier vs Robert Valentin
Bet: victory do Gautier
Analysis: Valentin is a very charismatic figure and stood out on last year’s TUF. However, within the UFC, he has already had two fights, where he was defeated in what is his biggest flaw: ground fighting. Now he’s up against a striker. The problem is that he’s simply a guy with a missile in each hand. Gautier is one of those unique guys, with absurd strength. Valentin would have to show a high fight IQ, tire Ateba out and survive the first round. But it’s a pretty thankless mission.
Francisco Prado vs Nikolay Veretennikov
Bet: Prado wins
Analysis: The Argentine is more complete and tougher. He’s coming off two losses, but they were to guys who are evolving well within the UFC. Veretennikov is a striker, but so far he hasn’t shown much and his takedown defense isn’t good. I think Prado takes the fight to the ground, submits or gets a ground and pound.
Marvin Vettori vs Brendan Allen
Bet: Bettori wins
Analysis: It’s very difficult to predict this fight. Vettori doesn’t have many qualities, but he’s an extremely tough guy, like a war tank. He won’t be knocked out or finished. Allen is a more lethal guy, but his game involves being able to take Marvin down, which I don’t think he’ll be able to do easily. Brendan’s gas worries me a lot too.
Kyler Phillips x Vinicius Oliveira
Bet: Oliveira wins
Analysis: Just look at what Vinicius has been doing, how can you bet against this guy? A lot of grit, agility, increasingly better takedown defense… it’s his time to keep shining. Phillips was a guy on the rise, but after his poor performance against Rob Font, he’s back to square one. I don’t see how he’s going to be more aggressive than Oliveira.
Michael Johnson vs Daniel Zellhuber
Bet: Zellhuber wins
Analysis: Zellhuber is one of those athletes from the young Mexican wave. At the age of 26, he has good boxing and guarantees himself on the ground, making good use of his almost two-meter wingspan. Johnson, a UFC veteran, is 39 and has a 23-19 record… I don’t see any area where he would be able to put Zellhuber at a disadvantage.
Dan Ige vs Patricio Pitbull
Bet: Ige wins
Analysis: I’ve heard a lot about how Patrício was a monster, an animal, and that when he entered the UFC he was going to make a splash. Well, we saw his debut against Yair Rodríguez, where he was dominated, he didn’t think anything of it. Perhaps the Brazilian, who is now 38, was too late. Ige never fills my eyes with his performances, but the guy has gas, he’s tough, he’s never been knocked out or finished, and he has a boxing style that has saved him several times.
Kevin Holland vs Daniel Rodriguez
Bet: Holland wins
Analysis: When the guy is in the boss’s good graces, everything gets easier. Holland has been delivering good performances, pleasing everyone. Now the match makers have found the easiest fight for him to put on a show. Daniel Rodríguez is 38 years old, a very slow fighter who doesn’t offer much danger. He’s on a two-fight winning streak because he’s faced two dead guys. If Kevin is focused, he’ll finish or knock him out easily.
Paulo Costa vs Roman Kopylov
Bet: Kopylov wins
Analysis: Kopylov is a high-level striker, with very dangerous kicks and is in a great phase. Paulo Costa, Borrachinha, I can’t tell you how he’s doing in the co-main event, coming off two defeats in which he was completely dominated. I don’t think Paulo has enough speed to defend himself against the Russian’s attacks. And from what we’ve seen of his latest performances, his fight IQ is also questionable…
Max Holloway vs Dustin Poirier
Bet: Poirier wins
Analysis: The two have already met twice, with Poirier winning both times. Why should it be any different now? Holloway has a boxing style that is difficult to fight against, as well as knowing how to take advantage of his wingspan. However, that’s about it. If the fight goes to the ground, he’ll be in trouble. Not to mention the fact that he was brutally knocked out by Topuria in October last year. How’s his chin? Poirier’s boxing and ground-fighting skills are in his favor, not to mention the fact that it’s his last fight and he’s fighting at home… he’ll give it his all.
