UFC Abu Dhabi: Whittaker vs de Ridder

Martin Buday x Marcus Buchecha

Bet: Buday wins

Analysis: They’ve been talking about Buchecha in the UFC for a while now. A jiu-jitsu guy, very strong and who was well out of the UFC. He usually finishes his fights early, but Buday isn’t one to go down easy. Martin is very heavy and difficult to finish. As the fight wears on, I think Buday, as a UFC veteran, has a better chance of winning a decision.

Mohammad Yahya vs Steven Nguyen

Bet: Nguyen wins

Analysis: Two average fighters, but I think Nguyen still has more to offer. They’re strikers, with the same wingspan, but Steven will have a slight height advantage. And Mohammad’s chin is not at all reliable.

Ibo Aslan x Billy Elekana

Bet: Aslan wins

Analysis: Elekana made a good debut at short notice, but was beaten. Now he faces a thick-skinned Turk who is coming off the back of a defeat. Aslan is very strong, has knockout power and I think he’ll do more than Elekana to win.

Amanda Ribas x Tabatha Ricci

Bet: Ricci wins

Analysis: The two are very short, but Amanda’s fight IQ in her last two fights has been worrying. Ricci is very strong, has good jiu-jitsu and her boxing is very consistent. I think there’s a good chance that Baby Shark will win. If in doubt, bet on this fight going to a decision.

Davey Grant x Da’Mon Blackshear

Bet: Blackshear wins

Analysis: Da’mon is a good fighter and is on a great winning streak. Grant is already 39… I think he’s on his way out, and he won’t have the strength to hold Da’mon’s momentum. If the fight goes to the ground then… Blackshear will walk.

Muslim Salikhov x Carlos Leal

Bet: Leal wins

Analysis: Salikhov, despite being 41 years old, has very dangerous kicks, so the Brazilian can’t afford to stand still. If he can get the fight to the ground, that would be better. But even on the feet, in pure exchanges, I trust Leal more.

Bryce Mitchell vs Said Nurmagomedov

Bet: Nurmagomedov wins

Analysis: It’s going to be a horrible fight. They both have a similar fighting style. It’s going to be American wrestling vs. Russian wrestling. Mitchell is as crazy inside the octagon as he is outside, so if Said comes in focused and controls his gas well, he has more tools to win.

Nikita Krylov vs Bogdan Guskov

Bet: Guskov wins

Analysis: Krylov had a long layoff, came back and was knocked out. Now his life hasn’t got any easier, as Guskov is rough, aggressive and good on the feet and on the ground. I see Bogdan having the edge in any area of the fight. Maybe, if the fight goes on too long, Krylov has a chance, but I think it’s difficult for this fight to go to the third round.

Asu Almabayev x Jose Ochoa

Bet: Ochoa wins

Analysis:  It’s not an easy fight to predict. Ochoa is one of those curious cases of a Chute Boxe fighter who has fighting IQ and doesn’t rely solely on madness and luck. The Peruvian has good boxing skills and is particularly dangerous on his feet. Almabayev will want to tire him out, but if Jose keeps his distance and throws a lot of punches, he can win. It’s important to note that Ochoa accepted the fight on short notice.

Shara Magomedov vs Marc-Andre Barriault

Bet: Magomedov wins

Analysis: In the previous round, Magomedov took a step too far and stumbled. Now they’ve handed him a much more beatable guy and I think that with his kickboxing style, very fast and with kicks that come out of nowhere, he’s got a good chance of beating the heavy and slow Barriault.

Petr Yan vs Marcus McGhee

Bet: McGhee wins

Analysis: A rock in front of Marcus, but I trust him. He fights little, but he’s a guy with a very high fight IQ, strong, tough and good in any area. Yan is a Russian striker, very good and fast, but with a poor takedown defense, which could be exploited by McGhee.

Robert Whittaker vs Reinier de Ridder

Bet: de Ridder wins

Analysis: I’ve stopped doubting the Dutchman. The guy’s all weird, but he’s got dangerous punches on his feet and he’s an ace on the ground. Whittaker, of course, has a star and is differentiated, but I think his peak has passed. Maybe if it gets to the championships rounds (4 and 5), Robert will have the edge, but for the early rounds, de Ridder will bring the chaos.
