UFC Des Moines predictions: Sandhagen vs. Figueiredo
em 30/04 - Atualizado há 18 diasThe Ultimate returns to the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 3. The main event pits two of the top names in the bantamweight division against each other, with Cory Sandhagen (#4 in the rankings) looking to get closer to a title shot against Deiveson Figueiredo (#5). Check out our full analysis and UFC Des Moines predictions.

Juliana Miller x Ivana Petrovic
Bet: Petrovic wins
Analysis: Miller has been out of action for almost two years and from what she’s shown in the UFC so far, she’s not that great, apart from having good jiu-jitsu. Petrovic has a better pace and has a good wingspan, and on the feet I think she has a little more advantage than Miller.
Don’tale Mayes x Thomas Petersen
Bet: Petersen wins
Analysis: Petersen is a 30-year-old wrestler who will have a considerable height and wingspan disadvantage. Mayes is a wall! However, as soon as Thomas manages to get the fight to the ground… Don’tale will be in trouble, because he looks like a turtle. Now, if Petersen just stands there and gets pummeled on the cage, he could be in trouble.
Gaston Bolaños x Quang Le
Bet: Bolaños wins
Analysis: I see Gaston as more dangerous on his feet. Le likes to exchange, but he gets hit a lot. Bolaños has knockout power. Gaston’s weakness is ground fighting, but Quang doesn’t have a very high fight IQ either, so I wouldn’t trust that he’ll quickly go for a takedown.
Marina Rodriguez x Gillian Robertson
Bet: Robertson wins
Analysis: The Canadian is in a great phase, she has youth in her favor and her grappling and takedown game is fantastic. On the other side, the Brazilian Marina is dangerous on the feet, but she has a terrible takedown defense and at 37, I don’t know if she’ll be able to stop Robertson’s takedowns for fifteen minutes.
Azamat Bekoev vs Ryan Loder
Bet: Bekoev wins
Analysis: Loder has fantastic jiu-jitsu, but he’s up against a tough Russian! Bekoev has knockout power and is very good on the ground. I don’t see a way Ryan can find anything, not on the feet and certainly not on the ground.
Yana Santos vs. Miesha Tate
Bet: Santos wins
Analysis: Tate is a beast and has a distinctive ground game, but she hasn’t fought for over a year and is 38 years old. Santos is coming off a win against a very heavy athlete, where she managed to be stronger and impose her game. If she comes in focused and with her takedown defense up to date, she’ll be able to win.
Jeremy Stephens vs Mason Jones
Bet: Jones wins
Analysis: Jones is a 30-year-old Welshman, who has won four in a row with Cage Warriors and is now making his UFC debut. On the other side, Jeremy Stephens, at the age of 40, returns to the UFC, to fight in the event held in his city. It looks like a farewell for him, but I don’t think the party is on his side. Apart from his age, he was boxing without gloves, so his takedown defense must not be up to scratch. Jones, if he applies MMA, has every chance of winning.
Cameron Smotherman x Serhiy Sidey
Bet: Sidey wins
Analysis: Sidey has knockout power and is used to long fights. If Smotherman gets into fifth gear and goes all out, he’ll be in trouble. He’s even been knocked out twice quickly, which is never good. Apart from that, Serhiy has a slight height and wingspan advantage.
Montel Jackson vs Daniel Marcos
Bet: Jackson wins
Analysis: Marcos is undefeated in MMA, but in his last two fights he’s come up short… now he’s going to face a guy who’s a huge pain in the ass. Jackson is very fast, has a huge wingspan and knockout power. Marcos, as far as we’ve seen, prefers to fight standing up, so the recipe for him to get into trouble is all there. I wouldn’t doubt a knockout from Montel.
Santiago Ponzinibbio vs Daniel Rodriguez
Bet: Rodriguez wins
Analysis: I’m not going to put a penny on this fight, but in general, Rodriguez is one step ahead of Ponzinibbio. The Argentine is very slow and his gas is a bit questionable. If Daniel goes in with the slightest desire to win and secure at least the first round, he’ll be fine. But there are other, much better fights to bet on at this event.
Reinier de Ridder vs Bo Nickal
Bet: de Ridder wins
Analysis: I just hope they don’t avoid taking the fight to the ground, because then it’ll be a mediocre kickboxing match. If they use their unique grappling skills, it could be a great fight. But from there, I see de Ridder as more experienced and more dangerous to find a finish. Nickal has already had two fights where his performances have been disappointing, so I don’t know what’s going on in his head at the moment. But a defeat now could do him some good.
Cory Sandhagen x Deiveson Figueiredo
Bet: Sandhagen wins
Analysis: Deiveson arrived in this category shaking, but then he hit a ceiling and we saw that it was going to be difficult. Sandhagen is very good at grappling and has a distinctive fight IQ, even though he’s coming off a defeat, he fought very well against Umar Nurmagomedov, lasting all five rounds. Figueiredo is already 37 and his gas for the five rounds tends to run out.
