UFC Fight Night Vegas 100: Magny vs Prates

Melissa Mullins x Klaudia Sygulla

Bet: Mullins wins
Low Confidence

Analysis: I don’t see many qualities in Mullins: she’s slow and her boxing isn’t flashy. But if she manages to get the takedown, she’ll make life difficult for her opponent. And I think that’s what will happen. Sygulla is making her UFC debut and, given her record and the people she’s faced, I have my doubts as to whether her focus is really on fighting or just drumming up fans for some website… That said, I see Mullins taking her down and managing to control her over the course of the three rounds.

Tresean Gore x Antonio Trocoli

Bet: Trocoli wins

Analysis: Despite losing his last fight, the Brazilian showed certain qualities that will be enough to beat Gore. Tresean has been out of action for two years and has much less experience than Trocoli. And to help the Brazilian, he has a height and wingspan advantage.

Cody Stamann x Da’mon Blackshear

Bet: Blackshear wins

Analysis: Da’mon is more complete and has a dangerous ground game, which is Stamann’s weak point. Both come from two defeats and probably whoever loses here will leave. Blackshear has a good height and wingspan advantage.

Matthew Semelsberger x Charles Radtke

Bet: Radtke wins

Analysis: Matthew is on a three-fight losing streak and will now face a dangerous athlete. Radtke is good on the ground, knows how to take down and has knockout power. Given his style, and after being BRUTALIZED by Carlos Prates, I think he’ll come with blood in his eyes to close Semelsberger’s coffin in the UFC.

Elizeu dos Santos vs Zachary Scroggin

Bet: Dos Santos wins

Analysis: Elizeu, despite being 37, is fully capable of beating Zachary. The American took this fight on a few days’ notice. The Brazilian’s original opponent would have been Nicholas Dalby, who had to withdraw from the fight. Scroggin is complete, but he was fighting in a very small event and didn’t face the same competition that Elizeu has been facing for years.

Gaston Bolanos vs. Cortavious Romious

Bet: Romious wins

Analysis: Romious has good gas and knockout power, as well as sharp ground skills. I don’t see Bolanos posing any danger to Cortavious at any time. Perhaps the only factor that could get in the way is that this fight is Romious’ UFC debut. But being at the Apex, the same venue where he took part in the Contender Series, he shouldn’t be fazed…

Karolina Kowalkiewicz x Denise Gomes

Bet: Gomes wins

Analysis: At 39, the Polish fighter is already slowing down. From what we saw in her last fight against Brazilian Iasmin Lucindo, Karolina’s strength against younger athletes is not holding up. Gomes has a style similar to Lucindo’s and still has knockout power. Kowalkiewicz has only been knocked out once so far, but I wouldn’t doubt it happening again now.

Mansur Abdul-Malik vs Dusko Todorovic

Bet: Abdul-Malik wins

Analysis: Mansur goes in like a tank and if he manages to take his opponent down, he rains down punches from all sides. Todorovic has been out of action for over a year, he’s been knocked out three times and if he gets knocked out in this fight… he’s going to be CONSIDERABLY complicated.

Luana Pinheiro x Gillian Robertson

Bet: Robertson wins

Analysis: Luana is in a terrible phase! Knocked out by Amanda Ribas and then finished by Angela Hill… yes, she managed to get finished against a striker! You don’t even have to think too much about what Robertson, who has ABSURD jiu-jitsu, is going to do to her. Of course, Gillian will need to take her down first, but Luana doesn’t have a very strong takedown defense.

Gerald Meerschaert vs Reinier de Ridder

Bet: Meerschaert wins

Analysis: Reinier was the king of One, but now in the UFC, the level is different. And our dear tired ox is fully capable of winning this fight, especially if it goes to the ground. Gerald has a sharp ground game and can finish anyone. I wouldn’t doubt that happening here. In terms of age, height and wingspan, there’s no advantage for either side, they’re similar even in that.

Ricky Turcios vs. Benardo Sopaj

Bet: Sopaj wins

Analysis: Has the young Benardo, just 24 years old, recovered from the knockout he suffered eight months ago? I want to believe so! Sopaj has an aggressive game involving a lot of grappling and takedowns. Turcios has a very questionable defense and fights in a careless manner. I see Benardo taking him down and I wouldn’t doubt a finish from him. He just has to control his gas: Ricky is used to going all out, while Sopaj used to finish his fights much earlier.

Neil Magny vs. Carlos Prates

Bet: Prates wins

Analysis: Prates is a MONSTER. Powerful blows that take the soul out of his opponent little by little, until they have nothing left. And look, I think Magny’s soul was already gone three months ago, when he was knocked out by Michael Morales. The only chance for him here is to get Prates on the ropes and control him for twenty-five minutes. But with Carlos’ style and the phase he’s in, the most likely outcome is a knockout for the Brazilian between rounds 1 and 3.
