UFC Nashville Predictions: Lewis vs. Teixeira

Fatima Kline x Melissa Martinez

Bet: Kline wins

Analysis: Kline is different. She’s a complete fighter, good on the feet, good at grappling and, when she manages to take the fight to the ground, she knows how to use elbows and maul whoever is on the bottom. Martinez is coming off a win against Alice Ardelean, but overall, what she’s shown so far is average. Fatima will have a good height advantage and I see her being stronger than Martinez.

Mitch Ramirez vs Mike Davis

Bet: Davis wins

Analysis: Mike should come into the fight on the back of a defeat and before that he was on a good winning streak. He’s a good fighter in all areas, but he excels in the clinch game. Ramirez prefers to fight on his feet, but from what he’s shown so far in the UFC, he hasn’t adapted well, maybe it was a reality check. Okay, they didn’t give Ramirez a chance, he faced Prates in the Contender and then Thiago Moisés with just a few days to prepare. In the end, I think Davis is more of a challenge for Ramirez.

Kennedy Nzechukwu vs Valter Walker

Bet: Walker wins

Analysis: Nzechukwu has found himself at heavyweight. He’s coming off two knockouts, but against very low-level competition, he’s yet to be tested on the feet, let alone his takedown defense. Valter is Brazilian, but he’s been in Dagestan for so long that his fighting style is very similar to the people there: basic boxing, but very strong wrestling. The way forward here is certainly to take the fight to the ground. Every second on the feet, he’ll be giving himself a chance to complicate things. Kennedy isn’t usually a fighter in a hurry, so it should give Walker time to stick to him, tire him out, and if he manages to get the takedown, he’ll be at a huge advantage.

Lauren Murphy x Eduarda Moura

Bet: Moura wins

Analysis: Murphy is 41 and hasn’t fought for over two and a half years! Now he’s back and he’s going to take a beating, it seems. Moura was forced to move up a category because she couldn’t make the weight, but I’m already well into the Flyweight division, even if she doesn’t look so huge now, her strength and grappling are sharp. She just needs to control her energy for the three rounds. Murphy’s time has passed, but in her last few performances, she’s shown a lot of stamina.

Jake Matthews vs Chidi Njokuani

Bet: Matthews wins

Analysis: Jake is coming off two wins against two solid fighters. Njokuani is on a three-fight winning streak, but a very average contest. Chidi has a height and wingspan advantage, but his takedown defense isn’t great and his chin doesn’t inspire confidence. If Matthews fights smart, he has the tools to win.

Max Griffin vs Chris Curtis

Bet: Curtis wins (Low confidence)

Analysis: Chris, at 37, is moving down to the Middleweight category. What about the weight cut? That’s my question. If he cuts weight well, he has the skills. Very good boxing and an interesting takedown defense. Griffin, at 39, is already like that, he looks like he’s just coming in to collect the check. I don’t see Griffin having an advantage in any area, unless Curtis doesn’t enter the fight at 100%.

Junior Tafa x Tuco Tokkos

Bet: Tafa wins

Analysis: Junior is moving down to the light-heavyweight category, and at the top, he was at a physical disadvantage. Now it remains to be seen how his knockout power will be. Tafa has a kickboxing background and his ground game is abominable to say the least. Tuco, if he has two brains, will try to take the fight to the ground anyway. But I want to believe that Tafa will knock him out before he gets knocked down.

Vitor Petrino x Austen Lane

Bet: Petrino wins

Analysis: After two abominable defeats at the bottom, Petrino is looking for a fresh start at heavyweight. Although he is at a height disadvantage, if his knockout power converts well, he could find new directions. His opponent is a great test. Austen Lane likes to go for it and it’s kill or be killed. He usually tends to get knocked out, he’s been knocked out six times. If Vitor can’t beat this guy, then it’s a case of sending him to HR.

Nate Landwehr x Morgan Charrière

Bet: Charrière wins

Analysis: Nate always fights with his heart and has willpower, but talent… depending on the opponent, he gets complicated. He’s coming off a humiliating defeat to Doo Ho Choi, where he was run over. Charriére was dominated by Nathaniel Wood in a flawless performance by the Englishman, but Morgan has a lot of skills, both on the feet and on the ground.

Calvin Kattar x Steve Garcia

Bet: Garcia wins

Analysis: Kattar is on a four-fight losing streak, one worse than the other. He can’t find the distance, he can’t develop anything and he’s already 37 years old. And to make matters worse for him, he’s going to face an athlete who’s on a five-fight winning streak and is very aggressive. Garcia is going to go for it from the start, to impose his game. I don’t see Kattar being able to survive this pressure game. If he survives the first round, Calvin will have to pray that Garcia gets tired. Otherwise… it’s going to be a long night for him.

Stephen Thompson vs Gabriel Bonfim

Bet: Bonfim wins

Analysis: Bonfim is a good fighter and, after the shock he suffered in the fight against Nicolas Dalby, he’s come back even better. He has a good fight IQ, differentiated boxing and high-level ground game. Thompson is a first-class karateka, but at 42, he’s already slowing down and his chin is very suspect. Bonfim tends to win, probably by finish, but if he respects Stephen enough, the victory will come by unanimous decision.

Derrick Lewis vs Tallison Teixeira

Bet: Teixeira wins

Analysis: Tallison has a record of 8×0, but has NEVER fought more than one round… he’s more than capable of finishing the fight quickly and Lewis won’t shy away from striking. But just in case, it would be good for the Brazilian to manage his gas well, to build up to the knockout. Derrick is 40 and hasn’t fought for over a year, but he has the touch of death in his hands.
