Palpites UFC Shanghai: Walker x Zhang

Check out the predictions and analysis for all the fights on the card below. The predictions take into account the fighters’ current form, performance history and fighting styles.

Uran Satybaldiev x Diyar Nurgozhay

Bet: Satybaldiev to win

Analysis: Both come from defeats and have similar cards. They’re very strong, but Uran is taller and has a good wingspan. Satybaldiev is a knockout artist but he’s sharp on the ground, and since that was the way Diyar lost in his last fight, where he put in a very weak performance, I think Uran has the edge.

Xiao Long x SuYoung You

Bet: You win

Analysis: Neither of them showed much that impressed me, but You is more aggressive and is in better form. Xiao is quite tough and has a lot of experience, but in terms of skill, the Korean is more complete. Xiao will have a good wingspan advantage and that’s it.

Yizha x Westin Wilson

Bet: Yizha win

Analysis: This is one of those fights to get the home crowd going. Wilson, now 36, is very good on the ground offensively, but defensively and on his feet, he’s very weak. Yizha is a Chinese prospect, good on the feet, but his specialty is his ground game. I think he’ll take Westin in round 2 at the latest.

Michel Pereira vs Kyle Daukaus

Bet: Pereira wins

Analysis: This should be Michel’s last chance. He’s got the skills, but in his last two performances, he didn’t look like he wanted to be there. If Michel roots his way into the octagon, he has everything to beat Daukaus, a guy who is on a good winning streak OUTSIDE the UFC. He’s already fought in the event and was knocked out twice on those occasions. If Michel loses to this guy… maybe he should go to HR.

Rongzhu x Austin Hubbard

Bet: Rongzhu wins

Analysis: It’s not that the Chinese fighter is very different, but Hubbard is very average. In terms of volume, Ronghu has a good chance of winning the rounds. Although he’s a knockout artist, Austin has never lost this way, so I wouldn’t bet on a knockout. But if he puts the pressure on, Hubbard will get desperate.

Lone’er Kavanagh vs Charles Johnson

Bet: Kavanagh wins

Analysis: If it’s the same Charles Johnson from the last round, Lone’er wins comfortably. Despite his wrestling base, Charles simply didn’t invest in this game, took too long to get into the fight and lost on his feet. Kavanagh is a complete boxer, very agile and versatile. It could even be an even fight, but I think Lone’er is in more of a mood at the moment.

Maheshate x Gauge Young

Bet: Young to win

Analysis: These are two switch-hitters. The Chinese fighter’s problem is that, despite his good stamina, he takes a lot of blows. And for Young’s style, that’s a full plate. Maheshate will have a height and wingspan advantage, but if Gauge applies good boxing and some takedowns to secure the rounds, he has a good chance of upsetting the Chinese party.

Taiyilake Nueraji vs Kiefer Crosbie

Bet: Nueraji wins

Analysis: Nueraji is a Chinese sensation from the UFC Road, a natural fighter who likes to knock out whoever is in front of him. And he’s got good gas and can knock you out at any time. They gave it to him, a 35-year-old Irishman who hasn’t fought for over a year and has had some very poor performances. It’s all set up for a Nueraji show.

Sumudaerji x Kevin Borjas

Borjas’ win

Analysis: It should be a grappling match and I see Borjas with more weapons. The Peruvian has good boxing and stamina, and I think he’s more agile than the Chinese. But it could be a very even fight.

Sergei Pavlovich x Waldo Cortes-Acosta

Bet: Pavlovich wins

Analysis: Pavlovich has been performing below par, but his knockout power remains. He just needs to go in with blood in his eyes. Waldo is a good fighter, a trickster, he knows how to win rounds, but he’s never been knocked out. But he’s also never fought someone with the power of the Russian and who will defend his takedowns if he tries, unlike Robelis Despaigne.

Brian Ortega vs Aljamain Sterling

Better guess: Sterling wins

Analysis: No one wants to see this fight, let alone bet on it. Both have a similar style and will want to invest in wrestling, it will depend on who can get that game going first. And I think Sterling has the best timing for takedowns and control on the cage.

Johnny Walker vs Zhang Mingyang

Better guess: Zhang wins

Analysis: This fight won’t even reach the third of the five rounds. Two aggressive monsters, they’re going to collide from the start and whoever has the weaker chin is going to win. And that way, I trust the Chinese more than the Brazilian.
