UFC Tampa predictions: Covington vs. Buckley
em 04/12 - Atualizado há 10 diasCheck out our analysis and predictions for UFC Tampa. The event pits two fighters at different points in their careers against each other, with Covington looking to stay among the top names in the division after his latest loss for the belt, while Buckley tries for his biggest win to date in the UFC.
Josefine Knutsson x Piera Rodríguez
Bet: Knutsson wins
Analysis: Knutsson has a good takedown defense and different kickboxing. In her last fight, Rodríguez was even disqualified for an illegal headbutt, and she was winning. Her psychology is very questionable inside the octagon. Josefine has more weapons and should win on volume. I think it’s difficult for this fight not to go the distance.
Davey Grant vs Ramon Taveras
Bet: Taveras wins
Analysis: Grant, already 38, must be heading towards the end of his career, while Taveras, at 30, is flying and evolving with every fight. Davey has been finished a few times and Taveras is good on the ground, although he prefers to fight standing up. And if the fight goes the distance, the young athlete should have more gas.
Miranda Maverick vs. Jamey-Lin Horth
Bet: Maverick wins
Analysis: Maverick is seven years younger and more than twice as experienced as Horth! Not to mention that Miranda has already faced better athletes than Horth’s opponents. Maverick has wrestling to envy and when he manages to get a takedown, he has good control. Or if the match is on the fence, she also shows a lot of strength. In Horth’s favor is the 9 centimeter height difference, but the way I see the fight unfolding, that won’t be enough for her to get the win.
Miles Johns x Felipe Lima
Bet: Johns wins
Low confidence
Analysis: Lima came out on top in his last fight, accepting the fight with a few days to go and beating Muhammad Naimov. Once again, he has a fight at short notice, but this time his opponent has also been called up in the last few days. Miles is very tough and in his last few fights has shown a lot of resilience. Compared to Felipe’s last fight, I think the competition is higher now. But perhaps it will be an even fight.
Sean Woodson vs Fernando Padilla
Bet: Woodson wins
Analysis: Woodson is one of the longest and weirdest athletes I’ve ever seen fight. And yet, he has proved to be very effective with his boxing alone! To his aid, a wingspan of almost 2 meters. Padilla is a good athlete, but if he just wants to trade on his feet, he can get into trouble. And when it comes to takedowns, it’s not that easy to get Sean to the ground.
Joel Alvarez vs. Drakkar Klose
Bet: Alvarez wins
Analysis: Alvarez is a lethal athlete. 100% of his victories have come via the fast track. Good on the feet, but his specialty is ground fighting. He’s very fast too. Now he’ll face Klose, who is a good athlete and tough, but here, the difference in height and wingspan is almost glaring. It’s going to be very difficult for him to impose himself. I think we’re looking at another knockout or finish for the Spaniard.
Michael Johnson vs Ottman Azaitar
Bet: No prediction
Analysis: Guys, it’s not even worth watching this fight, imagine betting on it.
Navajo Stirling x Tuco Tokkos
Bet: Stirling wins
Analysis: Navajo comes in on the back of his knockout in this year’s Contender Series. His opponent has been knocked out twice before and now he has everything to make it a third time. There’s just the matter of the nerves that sometimes get to athletes making their UFC debut. On the bright side for Navajo, Tuco only has one fight in the event and it was a defeat. Stirling has a 2.10m wingspan and is very fast and accurate with his punches.
Adrian Yanez vs Daniel Marcos
Bet: Marcos wins
Analysis: An undefeated Peruvian with a 16-0 record, he has very good and effective boxing. He has plenty of stamina and gas. In his last three fights, Yanez has been knocked out twice and beaten a very weak athlete who has already been fired from the UFC. Daniel has many more weapons to win. Maybe even by knockout.
Vitor Petrino vs Dustin Jacoby
Bet: Petrino wins
Analysis: After that BIG blunder he had in his last fight, I want to believe that Petrino will come into the fight more focused. Jacoby in his last fight was knocked out in the first round by Dominick Reyes! Petrino is younger and more dangerous in all areas, especially on the feet. If he wants to win over his boss and the fans, a knockout or finish is essential.
Manel Kape x Bruno Silva
Bet: Silva wins
Analysis: Kape’s last performance was disastrous, even though he hurt his foot at the start of the fight. Manel has good stamina, has never been knocked out, but has been finished twice in a long time. Bruno’s style is to go all out. If he gets the takedown and stays on top, Manel will be in danger! The Brazilian has more desire to win, but because of his game, he tires more quickly, and the third round, if he gets there, could be a tricky moment.
Cub Swanson vs Billy Quarantillo
Bet: Quarantillo wins
Low confidence
Analysis: Swanson at 41 is the main reason for me to bet on the unreliable Quarantillo. The fight should be contested on the feet and possibly with balance. But the five-year age difference should favor Billy. If he gets a few takedowns, that would be better. I won’t put a penny on this fight.
Colby Covington vs. Joaquin Buckley
Buckley win
Analysis: Buckley has a lot of power and an aggressive style, especially at the start of the fight. Given that it’s five rounds, it would be good if he could save a little gas for the last few rounds and if his takedown defense is up to speed. Colby only has takedowns to try. Joaquin is much better on his feet. The problem is that Covington is used to long fights. Still, Buckley’s form is much better and on the feet, I wouldn’t doubt him being able to hurt Colby early on.
