UFC 317 predictions: Topuria vs. Oliveira
em 26/06 - Atualizado há 5 diasDuring International Fight Week, UFC 317: Topuria vs. Oliveira promises to be one of the most anticipated MMA events of the year, scheduled to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 28. Check out our full analysis and predictions.

Jackson McVey vs Christopher Ewert *
Bet: McVey wins
* McVey had already accepted the fight with a few days against Sedriques Dumas, who is now unable to fight, so Ewert accepted, with less than a week.
Analysis: Two unbeaten so far, but I think Ewert loses his 0. McVey is very aggressive and will have a good height and wingspan advantage. Ewert was in smaller events and with this minimal time, I think it’s hard that he’s 100% prepared, he only took the fight to sign with the UFC, and he’s not wrong.
Jhonata Diniz x Alvin Hines
Bet: Diniz wins
Analysis: Diniz was going to face one of the Tafa brothers, which would have been an easier fight. Now, he’s going to face an undefeated athlete and wrestler, which is precisely Jhonata’s most problematic area. Even so, I have more faith in the Brazilian’s knockout power. Hines is undefeated at 7-0, but was facing very dubious competition in the LFA. Diniz has more experience and if he can keep the fight on the feet, he has everything it takes to knock Alvin out at any time.
Niko Price vs. Jacobe Smith
Bet: Smith wins
Analysis: They gave Price away. Niko is very experienced in the UFC, he’s had a few wins in his time, but he’s been knocked out multiple times. Now he’ll face a born knockout artist, who got his contract on DWCS and has already knocked out an opponent in the first round since joining the UFC. They are athletes at different stages and Jacobe will have full advantage in any area the fight develops.
Terrance McKinney vs Viacheslav Borshchev
Bet: McKinney wins (Low confidence)
Analysis: The curious case of McKinney, an athlete with an impeccable offensive game but almost zero stamina. So it’s very simple, either he passes the car or he gets run over. The American’s luck is that Viacheslav has terrible takedown defense, even though he’s a top-level kickboxer. All it takes is for Terrance to get the fight to the ground as soon as possible, and yes, he has the ability to do that if he can hide his chin for at least a minute. But I wouldn’t bet my life on him being able to do it without problems.
Viviane Araújo x Tracy Cortez
Bet: Araújo wins
Analysis: It’s certain that this fight will go to a decision, as neither of them has knocked out or finished in a while. Cortez has been improving, but she was nullified by Rose Namajunas. Araújo, on the other hand, managed to stop the hype of the very strong Karine Silva, in a magical performance she had last year. Despite being 38, I’m confident that Viviane will be able to control Cortez most of the time and win the rounds.
Hyder Amil vs. José Miguel Delgado
Bet: Delgado wins
Analysis: It’s very difficult to make a guess in this fight because I like and see qualities in both athletes. Hyder, with his explosive style, gives his all from the first seconds of the fight. He’s always an underdog, but he’s done well and I don’t doubt at all that he’ll come away with the win. However, Delgado has a more refined fighting style and I think he can take advantage of counter attacks against Amil’s offensive loads. Hyder also tends to take a lot of blows. So far, he’s held up well, but at some point, he might cool off. Delgado will have a good wingspan advantage.
Jack Hermansson vs Gregory Rodrigues
Bet: Rodrigues wins
Analysis: If it was 5 rounds I would worry about Robocop’s breath, but in 3 rounds there should be no problems in that sector. Hermansson is coming off a surprising victory, when he destroyed Joe Pyfer’s hype in an event that went five rounds and Pyfer couldn’t control the gas. But this time, Jack, at 37 years of age, doesn’t look like he’ll give Gregory any trouble either on the feet or on the ground. I see the Brazilian controlling all the rounds and even with a chance of a knockout.
Payton Talbott x Felipe Lima
Bet: Lima wins
Analysis: After a pathetic performance against Raoni Barcelos, how can you trust Talbott again? Do you think that in five months he’s managed to significantly improve his takedown defense? I don’t think so. And on the other side, Brazilian Felipe Lima is flying and is coming off two incredible wins. Felipe is very fast on his feet and in the clinch game, he’s far superior to Payton. I see Lima winning and with cruelty, burying Talbott’s hype once and for all. On the one hand it’s sad, because Payton looked like he was going to be one of the faces of the UFC for years to come…
Beneil Dariush vs Renato Moicano
Bet: Moicano wins
Analysis: It’s a question of phase. Dariush is coming off two ugly knockout losses. Moicano, on the other hand, despite losing to Makhachev, has been on a good run. There’s a lot of talk about Beneil’s jiu-jitsu, but in his last few performances we’ve seen nothing of it. I think Moicano wins and I wouldn’t doubt a ground and pound. They’re both the same age, 36, but every time I look at Dariush it seems like he’s aged about 10 years.
Brandon Royval vs Joshua Van
Bet: Van wins
Analysis: Royval is coming off two wins, but by split decision… it looks like it’s about time he lost another one. Van isn’t an athlete that used to fill my eyes, but he’s delivering increasingly solid performances. Van has very good boxing, good takedown defense and is very fast. Royval may have already reached his peak. There’s just one detail: Van already fought earlier this month. How will he be after another weight cut? That’s the detail… but if he can get to 80%, it should be enough to beat Brandon.
Alexandre Pantoja x Kai Kara-France
Bet: Pantoja wins
Analysis: It’s strange to see Kai fighting for the belt, and in his last 3 fights he’s 1-2. He beat Erceg well in his last fight, ok, but I think he would need to build a streak before facing the champion. There’s also the fact that they’ve both fought on TUF and Pantoja won. Alexandre has good stamina, I don’t think Kara-France will be able to catch him the way he caught Erceg. And Pantoja has a very good fight IQ. If he takes it to the cage, tires Kai out, takes him down and controls him, it will make his life a lot easier. And still.
Ilia Topuria x Charles Oliveira
Bet: Topuria wins
Analysis: My heart goes out to Charles, but logic points to Ilia. Unbeaten with 16 wins, the Spaniard/Georgian is proving to be lethal and has a distinctive knockout power. Now there’s the detail that he’s moving up a category and that there are five rounds. The last version of Charles we saw was more cerebral, aiming to score points and win rounds, which can be a good thing. The problem is relying on Oliveira’s chin against Topuria’s power, that’s what scares me. Maybe if he manages to tire Topuria out, taking advantage of his height and wingspan, there could be a chance. If it’s just pure grappling, my friends… it’s going to be a tough fight.
