Check out the predictions and analysis for all the fights on the card below. The predictions take into account the fighters’ current form, performance history and fighting styles.
Jaqueline Amorim x Mizuki Inoue
Better guess: Amorim wins
Analysis: The Brazilian is lethal on the ground and manages to take her opponents down with a certain ease. Inoue hasn’t fought in over 2 years, I don’t know how she’ll come back. She’s never been finished, but I wouldn’t doubt that now would be the first time, as Jaqueline is very aggressive.
Azat Maksum x Mitch Raposo
Bet: Maksum wins
Analysis: Azat is coming off two defeats, but he hasn’t had it easy: he’s beaten Charles Johnson and Tagir Ulanbekov. Azat is fast and has a consistent game, both on the feet and on the ground. Raposo is coming off two defeats, the first of which, to André Lima, was okay, but the second to Sumudaerji is worrying. Mitch is trending upwards from the second round and against Azat, at this rate, he’s going to be in trouble.
Chris Barnett vs Hamdy Abdelwahab
Better guess: Abdelwahab wins
Analysis: It’s very clear here what the UFC is trying to do: handpick a name that Hamdy can beat, after some very dubious performances in the octagon. Barnett, in his last fight, was injured while trying to throw a kick, so you can see the level… at 39 years old and very heavy, even for his category, I don’t see how he’s going to beat Hamdy. Unless Abdelwahab lets the fight go too far, because his energy is questionable.
José Delgado vs Nathaniel Wood
Bet: Delgado wins
Analysis: A well-balanced fight between two fighters in great form. Delgado is a stand-up ace. Very creative, fast, always throwing kicks, elbows, knees and punches to hurt his opponent, and he’s had several of them go down. Englishman Wood is fighting well and showing good stamina. If he tries to take the fight to the ground, that could be the way, but Delgado’s takedown defense is good in principle. And when it comes to standing, José is different.
Valter Walker x Louie Sutherland
Bet: Walker wins
Analysis: Valter should have fought in Brazil, but his opponent failed the anti-doping test. Now they’ve found this Louie, who accepted the fight with a few days to spare. He’s a fighter, he’ll want to come out on top, but Walker will be ready. The Brazilian is good at wrestling, he trains in Dagestan and on the ground, he’s lethal, especially if he catches his opponent’s foot. That’s probably what will happen again.
A Al Sewady x Matheus Camilo
Bet: Camilo wins
Analysis: The Brazilian made his UFC debut a few days beforehand and had even started the fight well, showing his credentials, but ended up succumbing in the third round. Now, with a full camp, he has another chance to get a win. Good on the ground and with knockout power in the stand-up, the Brazilian has the weapons to beat Sewady, who hasn’t fought for over a year and has a glass chin.
Mateusz Rebecki x Ludovit Klein
Bettor’s guess: Rebecki wins
Analysis: Mostly based on the way Klein lost in his last fight to Gamrot, who has a fighting style very similar to Rebecki’s, of chain wrestling. Drop, drop and more drops. Ludovit’s defense would have to be perfect, but I don’t know if he can do that for three rounds, and I don’t think he can knock Mateusz out either.
Ikram Aliskerov vs Jun Yong Park
Bet: Aliskerov wins
Analysis: Ikram fights well on the feet, is dangerous and has wrestling if necessary. Park is a good fighter, especially on the ground, on the offensive side, but his stand-up is a bit slow and his takedown defense isn’t sure he can stand up to the Russian’s style.
Nasrat Haqparast x Quillan Salkilld
Bet: Haqparast win
Analysis: Nasrat has knockout power and knows how to get takedowns when he needs to. Quillan is a good fighter on the feet, but if he gets knocked down, there’s no telling how he’ll cope on the ground. Nasrat has more weapons to win.
Aleksandar Rakic vs Azamat Murzakanov
Bet: Murzakanov to win
Analysis: Rakic is younger, has a good height and wingspan advantage, but the stage is complicated. His stamina isn’t up to scratch and on the other side, he’s up against a Russian who, despite being 36 and only 1.76 tall, is lethal in the stand-up and has the gas to last three rounds if necessary. In his five UFC fights, Azamat has knocked out four and won one by decision. I think he’ll add another knockout to his tally.
Alexander Volkov vs Jailton Almeida
Bet: Almeida wins
Analysis: I don’t like Jailton’s style, but you can’t say he’s not effective. The Brazilian is a wrestling monster, he takes everyone down with ease and has the energy to take them down in every round. Volkov, in order to develop his game, would have to keep the fight standing and control the distance, but I don’t think he’ll be able to do that. And once he’s on the ground, his nightmare will begin.
Umar Nurmagomedov vs Mario Bautista
Bautista’s win
Analysis: Potential to be the most boring fight of the night. Two bureaucratic fighters, although very tough. Umar knows how to fight on his feet, but his main game is like that: take down and control. The problem here is that Mario Bautista has shown himself to be a tank. He knows how to stop the fight, has good takedown defense and is better at boxing than the Russian.
Virna Jandiroba x Mackenzie Dern
Bet: Dern wins
Analysis: The two already fought 5 years ago and Mackenzie won by Unanimous Decision. Both have evolved their games, however, I believe that Dern has evolved more in the standing area. Virna’s game consists mainly of taking the fight to the ground, which is her area. However, Mackenzie is also a ground fighter. It could be an even fight, but Virna is already 37 years old… I see Dern with more advantages.
Tom Aspinall x Ciryl Gane
Bet: Aspinall wins
Analysis: Even fight. Gane doesn’t seem to be very interested in MMA and there’s the issue of having an allergy to jiu-jitsu and ground game. But he has good gas if he can survive the first round. Tom is brutal and has absurd knockout power. But we’ve never seen him even go beyond round 2… The Frenchman would have to survive a couple of rounds to tire Aspinall out… good luck to him trying to do that.
